2020-21 Risk Management / Coaching and Volunteer Requirements

Hello Parents, Coaches and Managers,

As the 2020/21 season is about to begin with the added responsibilities we all share in regards to Covid-19 precautions, I wanted to take this opportunity to review the risk management/ coaching requirements for Sackville Minor Hockey.  As you may be aware, becoming a coach or manager entails a structured risk management and certification process to ensure that associations follow proper screening protocols.  Parents, coaches and managers are all required by Hockey Nova Scotia to complete on-line Respect in Sport awareness training, to ensure their recognition and understanding of proper conduct while in the youth sporting environment (See instructions below).  These requirements are in place to maintain a positive, respectful, safe, and fun environment. If you have completed these outlined requirements in the past, please check your e-hockey account to ensure yours are up to date.  Criminal record and vulnerable sector checks expiring this year (2020 or earlier) will need to be submitted again. Your e-hockey account can be found at https://ehockey.hockeycanada.ca

PLEASE NOTE THAT NOVA SCOTIA CHILD ABUSE REGISTRY (CAR) CHECKS ARE NO LONGER REQUIRED.

As discussed at the managers meeting a new item is required this year by all volunteers.   This course can be found in your ehockey account.

There are 3 main requirements that you MUST complete, in order to occupy and remain in any coaching role. The first 2 of these 3 requirement MUST be completed/ up to date, BEFORE YOU GO ON THE ICE.  Again, it is your respnsibility to check and ensure you are compliant. The requirements are as follows:

Parents who are coaching or managing need to take both. Parents who have taken this previously for older siblings simply need to add their applicable children to their account. This will reflect your completion of the course for this season and future requirements. Coaches / managers, for the course please enter Pre-Registration Code: SVMHA-C8X7N9X. If you have any issues with this code, please make a couple of attempts. If you are having issues with the registration process, please let me know via email. Parents do not use pre registration code and must pay the 12$ cost. One parent is required to take the course and it does not expire.

2) Coaches and Managers - Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Check – As stated this is a criminal record and vulnerable sector check completed on-line at the following link, http://www.backcheck.ca/hockeynovascotia . At that time you need to sign into your backcheck account and enter the serial number provided to share your results with SMH (Follow instructions provided on the web page). If you don't receive an email from the police regarding your check, you can call them at (902-490-1329 Halifax Regional Police Records). They will give you the serial number over the phone. If you are not sure if you need this updated or not, check your e-hockey account. If it expires in 2020 or earlier, you need to do it again.
