By-laws and Policies

Constitution

As part of a concerted effort to improve communications with our membership, we are reviewing many of our current documents and our website to ensure that we are sharing accurate and timely information.

By-laws (this is the latest version that will be voted on at our next AGM) and the Rules & Regulations (TBA)

If you have any comments or concerns about the changes, please forward them to our VP of Operations and she will present them to the Board for discussion and review.

Behaviour Policy

The intent of this policy is to ensure the environment in which minor hockey activities take place is as positive as possible for all participants. It indicates the expected behaviour of the four main participant groups; the coaches, the officials, the parents/spectators, and the players.  Everything you do says something about you.  SMHA asks you to consider your role in showing “Respect” for the game, and the people involved in making this the great game it is.

View the Behaviour Policy for more details on the expected behaviours of each participant.

Social Media Policy.

Disciplinary Policy

When a discipline issue arises this is the process that will be followed by the Association.  All attempts will be made to come to a quick and fair resolution.  Each issue is addressed within the division first, starting with the coach.  If the issue is not resolved within the division, it is referred to the Disciplinary Committee for review.

View the Disciplinary Policy for further details on the resolution process, suspension guidelines and appeals.

Please read the Hockey Nova Scotia (and SMHA) policy on Hazing Memo and the Parent Abuse Policy and it's disciplinary consequences that will be applied.

Fair Ice Time Policy

It is our policy that all players on a team, regardless of age or skill level, should be given fair ice time.  However, this does not necessarily mean equal ice time for every player during each and every game.  There are many situations that make it impossible to ensure exactly equal ice time for all players in each individual game, but in the over-all season each player should have equal ice time.

View the Fair Ice Time Policy for further details, guidelines and the enforcement process.

Grievance Process

The Grievance Process is established to address the concerns of the members of the Association or any player who may be represented by any member of the Association. There are three (3) types of issues covered under this process:

  • Team related issues
  • Division or Association related issues
  • Issues brought forward by people outside of the Association.
The Grievance Process is documented here in a separate document.

Jersey Guidelines

Players are responsible for the care of their hockey jersey(s) assigned to them by Sackville Minor Hockey Association (SMHA).  Parents must provide a jersey deposit and sign an agreement to care for the jerseys and return them in good condition.

View the Jersey Guidelines document for further details.
