Sackville Minor Hockey has been providing a fun and safe environment for kids to play hockey in since 1971. Our membership is drawn from the greater Sackville, Nova Scotia area and we are one of five associations that make up Hockey Nova Scotia’s Halifax Region. We utilize 2 main arenas for our games and practices; the Sackville Arena and the Sackville Sports Stadium.
The association is governed by 11 Executive officers who are elected by the membership for a period of 2 years. The day to day operations of the association is handled by the Board of Directors, which includes the Executive officers and 9 appointed Directors. More information about the roles and responsibilities of each position can be found in our Constitution.
SMH provides hockey programs for 800+ kids each year, at all age ranges and all levels of competition. See the “Our Hockey Programs” section of our website for news and information on each of the specific programs.
We would not be able to offer these programs without a dedicated group of volunteer coaches, managers, trainers and coordinators. If you are interested in joining our team of volunteers, please let us know. Hockey Nova Scotia mandates that all volunteers including coaches complete the Volunteer Screening process. This process includes the completion of a Criminal Records Check (CRC), a Child Abuse Registry check (CAR) and attendance at a Speak-Out Workshop. More information about the Volunteer Screening process can be found on the "Risk Management" section of our website.
Our association has several awards that pay tribute to some of our greatest alumni. The James Sheppard Award is given to a player who shows strong leadership skills, academic achievement and athletic ability. The Bernie Bishop Coach of the Year Award is given to a coach who best demonstrates some of the values Bernie stood for; commitment, dedication and mentorship.
