President's Message

Hello SMH Hockey Families and Welcome to the 2014-2015 season!
With competitive tryouts quickly approaching, I am excited to get things under way, hoping you are too!
 
Being the first bit of action on tap, I encourage all of our competitive families to set an example for the rest of our SMH Hockey family…
It is time for positive attitudes and a supportive atmosphere around the rinks.
Without fail, the usual bits of negative energy, rumours and hearsay have made their way around the rinks to my desk and I must say it is beyond disappointing to hear. For those of you that become uneasy from this stuff, you can trust things are being done correctly and in the best interest of every child who is getting ready to give it their all to make a team.
 
I for one am not backing down from it, I am choosing to remain positive and am surrounded by like-minded people for the upcoming tryout process, which will be scored independently; The kids will earn their place, the coaches will be named and we will head into the season united.
 
As in life, there will be successes and disappointments for all of the kids over the next 2.5 weeks, and the rest of the season that follows.
These are inevitable, and it is what you do after those moments that are so important. It is time to support and encourage those around you, on the ice and in the stands,  whether you make the AAA Team, B Team, or no team at all, we are all on the same side. It is the smiles on the kid’s faces that we seek and the love for the game itself, regardless of the level, will provide them that’s for certain :)
 
We have all of our great programs in place to help achieve those smiles, be it Competitive, Recreation, Female, Novice or IP… the only thing we are waiting on is a collective positive approach from our members… and that is up to you.
 
We are a hockey community; we love this sport that is based on respect, responsibility and teamwork to grow as people.
