We are looking forward to an exciting season of hockey here at SMH!
In accordance with the changes brought forth by Hockey Nova Scotia, we are aiming to give our players the best possible opportunity to succeed as a player and grow as individuals.
Also in line with the Hockey Nova Scotia mandate, we are making some changes at the Recreation level.
Sackville Minor Hockey would like to introduce our
Rec Development Program.
What is the "Rec Development Program"?
The rec development program is a program designed to
lower the cost of recreational hockey but also
provide an opportunity for players to improve and expand their skills.
SMH is giving players the option to choose what they want out of their rec program. Does your player just want to play games once or twice a week or does your player want to play games and develop his or her skills? Well SMH is allowing you to build your own program while keeping the greatest obstacle obtainable, COST!!!
This program is also a great opportunity for new coaches to get involved within the program and learn basic coaching skills. It can also help existing coaches expand their coaching knowledge at no extra cost.
What is the cost of the program?
Each player that registers within SMH will have the option to register their player in this program at an additional $200 for 22 hrs of development.
**Atom players will be exempt from this cost due to the decreased number of games they play in comparison to PW-Midget divisions.
After evaluations, each player is required to cut a $200 cheque payable to their team postdated for Dec 1st.
We all know hockey can be quite costly and coming up with the extra funds can be very difficult.
This is why SMH is giving you the opportunity to fundraise for these development sessions. Each team as you may be aware will have a budget (substantially less than previous years). All players registered for the rec development program can add the $200 to their individual player budget from the team. This way you will have the opportunity to fundraise versus paying out of pocket.
At November end, if your player hasn't fundraised enough to cover the cost of their development sessions, the postdated cheque will be cashed by your team.
How does this program reduce cost to players?
Yes there is a charge for the rec development program however; it is at a reduced cost. Traditional team practices can cost individual players upwards of $300 + for ice alone.
Our rec development program allows us to utilize the ice more efficiently (more players participating) thereby lowering the cost to each player.
It also gives players a choice to participate or not.
What about team practices?
Our rec development program will replace the traditional team practice. Traditional team practices are often a challenge at the rec level due to varied levels of experience and varied levels of commitment. Teams are encouraged to seek out and participate in other team bonding events as they see fit.
If a coach chooses to obtain extra ice outside of SMH, they can certainly do so after Jan 1st. However this is not part of our SMH program and is not mandatory for any player to participate.
What is our ultimate goal?
SMH's goal is to keep players on the ice and to open up the world of hockey to new players by keeping the game affordable.
We are also looking to ensure all players, at all levels, have the opportunity to develop their skills.
And in the end, we all want our kids to have FUN!!!!!!
